Schorey, Paul

Personal Background

My Name is Paul Schorey, and I am thrilled to be a teacher at Norwell Middle School. I have been a teacher at Norwell since 2012. Prior to working for NWCS I've worked at a factory and held summer construction jobs throughout undergraduate study.  During graduate school I gained valuable experience working at a computer support help desk.  After grad school I worked as a customer service and sales representative, and finally as an alternative school teacher prior to coming to Norwell.

For most of my life I have known that I wanted to work in a profession where I could try to have a positive impact on people. The desire to help people led me to choose teaching as a profession. I earned a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education from Indiana University, and a Master of Divinity from Moody in Chicago, IL.

I met my wonder wife Tamber during graduate school and we have been married since March of 2005. Together we have a daughter, Natalya, whom we cherish dearly.

Computer Applications

In class students will focus on the following state standards:

  • Digital Citizenship
  • Technology Operation Skills
  • Keyboarding Skills
  • Word Processing Software
  • Spreadsheet Software
  • Digital Audio Video and Images
  • Communications Software

I have designed the courses to be self-paced to accommodate varying learning styles and technological backgrounds. Advanced students will test out of typing or other materials, and instead be mentored in completing student projects of their choice in the categories of game development, website development, or programing concepts.

Over the years I have taught myself how to code, create websites, and publish iOS and Android apps. Students use one of my websites in their curriculum, and some of my apps can be found here. Currently, my favorite part about teaching is helping guide aspiring students towards creating and realizing their own dream projects. My hope is that many students transform from being avid consumers of technology to developers of it instead.

Class Resources

Student will record their scores and assignment due dates in their matrices, as seen below. All assignments are listed in Schoology, or are on the respective pages listed in the matrix. Students are welcome to do work from school, home, or anywhere they have an internet connection. Points are not taken off for late work, but all assignments need to be completed by the end of the trimester. Various additional "maker space" activities can be found at the bottom of the matrix for each grade.

Extra Curricular

Since 2012 I have been the head middle school track and field coach. I am extremely fortunate in having a great athletic director, amazing assistant coaches, and excellent athletes year after year. We typically have well over one hundred athletes join our track team each season and I am very proud of each team's accomplishments.

Beginning in 2016 I began working as an assistant football coach. For the past three years I have been the defensive coordinator for 7th grade. I've always liked watching football, but being a coach is even more fun, it's like playing chess but with kids on the field.
