Lancaster Elementary
is accredited by the Indiana Department of Education, and provides students
with instruction based on the Indiana Academic Standards.
At Lancaster, we offer a well-balanced literacy program using the Literacy Collaborative framework to teach language arts including
reading, writing, and word study. Using this framework, teachers and students work together within small guided reading groups. Teachers differentiate and provide instruction to students
at their instructional reading level. Teachers also conference with students on
a regular basis in both reading and writing. This framework enables teachers to
differentiate their instruction to meet the needs of all the
students.
In
addition to language arts, teachers also provide differentiated math
instruction. Teachers use formative assessments on a regular basis to guide the
daily instruction they plan and provide for their students. Students
participate in math groups as well as independent math activities. Teachers
provide students with problems that require students to apply what they
have learned to real-life situations.
Teachers
also provide instruction in both science and social studies. Lancaster
also offers a four day rotation that enables students to participate in
music, art, library, and PE. Our music teacher plans several music
programs throughout the year and our PE teacher plans an end of the
year activity day for students & teachers to participate in and
celebrate the year.
Accommodations are
made for students who need extra support academically, emotionally, or
physically (with a 504 or IEP on file) to ensure their success
at Lancaster Central Elementary School. For more information about
