In this ever-changing world, Ossian Elementary School uses various forms of technology and media to enhance learning.
Grades K-2 use iPads and grades 3-5 use laptops for occasional classroom and home use as assigned.
Students have access to age-appropriate online media for research and daily classroom activities.
Staff members use PC, Microsoft Surface, and iPads as instructional aids.
Core curriculum classrooms are equipped with Smart Boards.
Ossian Elementary is accredited by the Indiana Department of Education, and provides students with instruction based on the Indiana Academic Standards.
Teachers provide instruction in language arts, math, social-emotional, science and social studies. Ossian also offers a five-day rotation that enables students to participate in music, art, library, PE and technology.
Accommodations are made for students who need extra support academically, emotionally, or physically (with a 504 or IEP on file) to ensure their success at Ossian Elementary School. For more information about special education services, click here .
Ossian Elementary staff members provide Ossian students with the tools to achieve personal and academic growth, while encouraging self-motivation, self-responsibility, and self-accountability in our ever changing social, technological and educational environment. Ossian Elementary provides students various extracurricular activities in which students can choose to participate in. Teachers coach both the Math Bowl and Spell Bowl Teams for fourth and fifth graders.
In addition to these groups, Ossian Elementary fourth and fifth grade students may also participate in Student Council. Student Council works each year to improve our school and raise money for various charities.
Other extracurricular activities that your child(ren) can get involved in are Book Club, Chess Club, Art Club and Choir.
Ossian Elementary offers before and after school care on a daily basis. Doors open for parents to check their child(ren) in starting at 6:30 am. Students participate in a various activities such as crafts, games, homework assistance, physical education time in the gym or outside, optional breakfast, along with other activities. Ossian Elementary looks forward to offering a preschool class for your children ages 3, 4 and 5! Having children begin their educational career in the same school that they will continue their education through fifth grade is a great advantage that other preschool programs are unable to offer. Our preschool teachers collaborate on a weekly basis with our kindergarten teachers to discuss student data, brainstorm instructional strategies, and to ensure their expectations are aligned with kindergarten expectations. Join the Ossian Elementary PTO! This organization supports our teachers and students in so many ways! Throughout the year they hold various fundraising events such as Scholastic Book Fairs, Daddy Daughter Dance, Nerf Wars and the annual carnival.
