Principal's Message

Welcome to Lancaster Central Elementary School! I am thrilled you are here visiting our website! I am Ginger Butcher and I am honored to be serving the Lancaster community as principal. I taught in Northern Wells at Ossian Elementary for eight years before making the decision to leave the classroom to impact more than just the children in my classroom. Striving to impact more students and teachers, I moved into the assistant principal position for both Lancaster Central and Ossian Elementary Schools. Serving three years in this position was excellent training and preparation for my current role as principal of Lancaster Central Elementary where I am committed to my passion of helping children learn and grow.

At Lancaster, we offer a well-balanced literacy program that closely follows the Literacy Collaborative model. Teachers and students work together during reading, writing, and word study workshops. Students are assessed at the beginning of each year and taught at their instructional level throughout the year. At the end of the year, they are again assessed to determine growth achieved over the year.

In math, our adopted textbook is EnVision Math. The math workshop framework closely resembles the framework of our reading workshop. Teachers use weekly formative assessments to guide their whole and small group lessons. In addition to these lessons, students participate in regular review, fact practice, standards practice, number talks, and problem solving – both written and oral.

Teachers at Lancaster Central Elementary are committed to our students. Teachers and students work hard on a daily basis. At Lancaster, we are family. Parents and community members are always welcome to visit and to volunteer here at LES. We are blessed to have an average of one hundred adults each week helping in classrooms, with PTO, or having lunch with children. This continual parent and community support is what makes Lancaster unique.

Thanks again for visiting our website and for taking the time to get know the staff here at Lancaster. I invite you to explore all the areas of our website to learn as much as possible about Lancaster. I welcome your thoughts and input on how we may better serve you. Please contact the building office or email me at [email protected] if and when you decide to visit Lancaster! I look forward to meeting you!
