Senior Megan Kling has been selected to receive the Norwell High School weekly Internship Spotlight award for the week of October 28th. Megan is doing her experience at Ossian Elementary School with nurse Ann McNabb in conjunction with the Work Based Learning Program. She is the daughter of Scott and Linda Kling.
A huge portion of Megan's internship is spent observing Mrs. McNabb as she goes about her daily responsibilities. When students come to see the nurse, Megan begins to multitask as she helps get student's names and if needed takes their temperatures, gets ice, and bandages. Megan has learned how important it is for a school nurse to build relationships with the students. This allows for an increase in trust and respect and helps the nurse to determine what medical attention is needed. She has also learned the importance of communication with parents and the recordkeeping on medical charts for each child.
After graduation, Megan plans to attend Purdue University
to study nursing or health-nutrition and fitness.
